Changing Laboratory Tubes in Juba, South Sudan: Check the Centrifuge First

Before changing tube suppliers in Juba, confirm the exact tube, rotor and adapter combination, method requirements and acceptance checks.

By Exper Medical Network Ltd · Published

A new tube supplier offers an attractive carton price. Before the laboratory in Juba changes its regular order, someone needs to check whether those tubes work with the installed centrifuge and the approved laboratory method. The same nominal volume does not make two tubes interchangeable.

Editorial planning guide; not a product specification, availability statement or delivery promise.

Make the proposed change visible

Create a comparison sheet with the existing tube reference on one side and the proposed reference on the other. Include manufacturer, intended use, dimensions, material, cap and bottom shape. Where specimen collection is involved, the laboratory must also review the tube’s suitability for the relevant test and collection process; centrifuge fit alone does not answer that question.

Keep a proposed alternative separate from an approved purchasing reference. Ask the supplier to state any difference explicitly. A substitution hidden inside a delivery description is much harder to review than one agreed before dispatch.

Identify the full centrifuge arrangement

Record the centrifuge model, rotor, buckets, adapters and lids actually installed. Use labels and existing records rather than dismantling equipment for photographs. Eppendorf’s manufacturer guidance explains why tube dimensions and bottom support matter when identifying adapters, and warns against improvised or unsuitable adapters.

Ask for documented compatibility for the complete arrangement, including the relevant operating limits. A tube that drops into a holder is not automatically approved for a run. Do not force tubes into an adapter or modify a holder to accommodate an unverified substitute.

Review the method before approving supply

The laboratory lead should compare the proposed configuration with the method’s required force, time and temperature conditions. Manufacturer documentation, rather than a generic purchasing article, must determine the permitted operation. Our centrifuge buying guide explains the broader equipment specification; this guide addresses a change to an existing supply line.

For illustration, a replacement tube may require a different approved adapter even though its nominal capacity matches the previous tube. The resulting cost comparison must include that adapter and any necessary assessment, not just the carton price. If compatibility cannot be established, keep the substitution unresolved.

Agree an acceptance plan before the bulk order

Ask whether documentation and appropriately identified samples can be provided for the laboratory’s authorised evaluation. A sample request is not permission for uncontrolled clinical testing. Have responsible staff define what evidence is needed and who signs off the change.

Once approved, update the purchasing reference and stores record. On receipt in Juba, check the actual reference and quantity against that approval. Do not silently accept a second substitution because the shipment is already at the facility. Keep the old and new references distinguishable during the transition.

Send a configuration-specific enquiry

Exper Medical Network supplies medical equipment from Uganda to South Sudan and coordinates delivery with reliable transport companies. Send your exact Juba destination, equipment list, tube references and quantities, plus the installed rotor and adapter details. Ask whether the proposed supplies or accessories can be offered with compatibility documentation.

Confirm charges, delivery timing, route, handling and documentation for the actual order. Our team is based in Kampala; this does not imply a local Juba stockholding or technical team. Use our laboratory equipment page and South Sudan hub to start the enquiry.
