Portable Massage and Physiotherapy Tables in Uganda: A Buying Checklist

Choose a portable massage or physiotherapy table in Uganda by height, load rating, stability, upholstery, accessories, cleaning and transport needs.

By Exper Medical Network Ltd · Published

A portable therapy table must fit the treatment workflow, the practitioner and the clients who will use it. “Foldable” does not tell a buyer the working height, load rating, locking system, packed weight or cleaning limits.

This checklist helps physiotherapy practices, wellness centres and mobile teams in Uganda and South Sudan prepare a clear enquiry. A qualified practitioner should approve the table for the intended assessment or treatment; product photographs alone do not establish clinical suitability.

Define where and how the table will be used

List the treatments, client groups and positions expected, then state whether the table will remain in one room or travel between locations. Measure the treatment area, doorway, storage space and vehicle compartment. Leave enough space for the practitioner to work safely around each side.

For mobile work, record the maximum packed size and weight the team can carry. Ask whether a carry bag, handle or shoulder strap is supplied and whether accessories fit inside the folded table.

Compare Exper's listed table configurations

The simple foldable massage bed is described with a metal support frame, padded upholstered surface, face opening and removable pillow. Exper also lists an adjustable-height massage bed with a metallic frame, height-adjustment holes, face opening, removable pillow and carry handle.

The foldable wooden-leg massage bed is described with adjustable-height supports, cushioned upholstery, a face opening and padded armrests; some photographs show an adjustable backrest. Ask Exper to confirm the exact frame, height range, backrest option, dimensions and included accessories for the quoted unit.

Check working height and adjustment security

Ask the practitioner to identify a suitable working-height range for the planned techniques. Request the minimum and maximum height and the adjustment increments. Inspect whether all legs adjust consistently and how pins, knobs or telescoping sections lock.

If more than one practitioner will share the table, evaluate how long height changes take and whether markings make repeated setup easier. The manufacturer's instructions should state whether adjustments can be made while the table is loaded; do not improvise.

Request the load rating and stability details

Ask for the manufacturer-stated safe working load and any conditions attached to it. Confirm whether the figure is static or working load, whether it applies across the full surface and whether the detachable headrest or armrests have separate limits. Product weight and frame material are not substitutes for a load rating.

Inspect leg spread, feet, braces, cables, hinges and locks. Ask for the permitted setup sequence and the floor conditions required. A table should be fully opened and locked as instructed before use, and damaged locks, cables or feet should be taken out of service for assessment.

Specify the patient surface and accessories

  • Usable length and width, not only overall dimensions.
  • Padding thickness and upholstery material.
  • Face opening, removable pillow or external headrest.
  • Armrests, bolsters and other position supports.
  • Backrest adjustment where required.
  • Replacement upholstery, feet, cables, hinges and locking parts.

Ask which accessories are included and which are optional. Request photographs and part numbers matching the quotation, particularly when online images show more than one configuration.

Approve the cleaning process

Request manufacturer instructions for cleaning and disinfecting the upholstery, seams, face opening, frame and accessories. CDC guidance for noncritical patient-care equipment recommends following manufacturer cleaning and maintenance instructions; facility procedures should also define responsibility and frequency. Review the CDC environmental-surface recommendations with the infection-prevention team.

Confirm product compatibility, dilution and contact time before using a cleaner or disinfectant. Check seams and openings for areas that are difficult to wipe, and decide whether washable covers or single-patient barriers are needed for the intended service.

Plan receiving and routine inspection

At handover, open the table on a level floor and check the legs, locks, braces, hinges, feet, upholstery and accessories against the order. Record the model, serial number where supplied, load rating and cleaning instructions. Use the delivery and handover checklist and add recurring condition checks to the facility's equipment maintenance records.
